Founding member agreement

What being a founding member means

We invited you because you were here early and because your growing is worth other people seeing. Being a founding member means two things: your name, photograph, neighborhood and a short bio appear on our public founding members page, and you get a code to share.

Your own account does not change. You are a member like any other, with the same toolkit, the same exchange, and the same guidelines. This agreement adds a code and a commission; it takes nothing away.

• You are an independent individual, not our employee, partner, agent or joint venturer.
• You cannot make promises on our behalf, sign anything for us, or speak as us.
• Nothing here gives either of us any claim on the other beyond what this agreement says.

Your code

We issue you one code. When someone creates a new account with it, they get a discount on their subscription and you earn a commission on what they pay.

A code belongs to the account it is used on, once. Someone who already used a code cannot use another, and you cannot use your own.

• The code is yours to share with real people who might actually want to grow food.
• Do not post it to coupon or deal sites, buy search advertising against our name or our marks, or send it to anyone who did not ask.
• Do not create accounts yourself to use your own code, and do not ask anyone else to do it for you.
• We can retire a code and issue you a new one if it gets out of hand; commissions already earned are unaffected.

Saying that you are a founding member

When you share your code, say plainly that you earn something if someone uses it. This is a legal requirement, not a courtesy, and it is also simply how a neighbor would put it.

• Only say things about GrowYourOwn that you believe and could stand behind.
• Do not describe results, savings or harvests as typical unless they are.

What you earn

You earn 25% of what each account you referred pays for their GrowYourOwn subscription, excluding any tax, for as long as that account keeps paying. Every renewal counts, not only the first payment.

The rate is fixed by this agreement at the version you signed. If we change the rate we offer to new founding members, yours does not move.

• The commission is calculated on what the member actually paid, after their discount and before any tax.
• It is not calculated on marketplace orders, only on subscriptions.
• You earn nothing on an account that never pays, and nothing on your own account.

How and when you are paid

Payments run through Stripe. You set up a Stripe account from your founding member page, and we transfer to it — we never hold your money ourselves.

Each commission waits 30 days after the payment it came from before it can be transferred. That waiting period is what lets us take it back cleanly if the member is refunded, rather than chasing you for it afterwards. Once the period passes, the commission goes out with the next weekly run.

• If a member is refunded before their commission has been paid, that commission is cancelled and you can see that it was.
• If a member is refunded after it has been paid, the amount comes off your next statement.

• You can see every commission you have earned, what it came from, and what has been paid, on your founding member page.

Tax

What you earn here is income, and it is yours to report. We do not withhold anything.

• You provide the tax details Stripe asks for before anything can be transferred to you.

What we show about you

By signing this you agree that we may show your name, your photograph, your bio and your neighborhood on the public founding members page and in ordinary descriptions of the founding members programme.

We never publish your address. Location on GrowYourOwn is neighborhood-level only, and the founding members page is no exception.

• You can ask us to take you off the page at any time, and we will.
• Coming off the page ends the programme for you going forward. Commissions already earned are still paid.
• The photograph and bio are yours to supply and yours to change.

Ending this

Either of us can end this agreement at any time, for any reason, by saying so.

When it ends, your code stops working and no new referrals are recorded. Commissions already earned are paid on the normal schedule, subject to the same claw-back rules.

• We can pause or end it immediately if the code is being misused, if the guidelines are broken, or if your account is suspended.

Changes to this agreement

If we change this agreement we will tell you before the change takes effect, and you can end the arrangement if you disagree. The version you signed is kept, with the date you signed it.
