GrowYourOwn

Licenses & data credits

GrowYourOwn stands on excellent public data. Here’s what we use and what each source asks of us.

USDA FoodData Central

Public domain

Nutrition panels are computed from USDA FoodData Central. All nutrition shown in the product is estimated — computed from USDA data for the matched food, not measured from your actual harvest.

Open Food Facts

Open Database License (ODbL)

Packaged-food data comes from the Open Food Facts database and is attributed wherever it appears. We cache records unmodified alongside our own keys; the database itself remains available under the ODbL at openfoodfacts.org.

Open-Meteo

Commercial API

Weather data by Open-Meteo powers frost alerts, watering guidance, and growing-degree-day tracking.

USDA plant hardiness zone data (PRISM)

Public domain

Hardiness zones derive from the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map produced with the PRISM Climate Group at Oregon State University.

OpenStreetMap

ODbL (map data)

The hub map renders map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, attributed on the map itself.

Anthropic Claude

Commercial API

Photo identification of plants, pests, and diseases is AI-assisted, and results are always presented as likely matches for you to confirm — never as certainties.
